IT'S TAX TIME AGAIN!

I'LL BE COLLECTING YOUR INFORMATION THIS YEAR ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE - BEGINNING FEB. 1, (PLEASE FILL IN AS MUCH OF THE ORGANIZER AS YOU CAN AND INCLUDE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS)

ON WEDNESDAYS THERE WILL BE SOMEONE IN THE OFFICE AT ALL TIMES TO ACCEPT YOUR PAPER WORK. ON THE OTHER DAYS YOU MAY WANT TO CALL BEFORE COMING OVER AS I MAY BE WORKING OUTSIDE THE OFFICE AT TIMES DURING THOSE DAYS.

ITEMS OF NOTE FOR 2009 TAX YEAR
1) EXEMPTIONS FOR CHILDREN-- IF YOUR CHILD TURNED 19 YEARS OF AGE DURING 2009, THEY WILL NEED TO BE A "FULL TIME" STUDENT IN ORDER FOR YOU TO CLAIM THEM AS A DEPENDANT. THEY MUST ALSO BE UNDER 24 YEARS OF AGE. (LET ME KNOW IF THIS APPLIES TO YOU)
2) ENERGY TAX CREDITS ARE BACK AGAIN (AFTER TAKING A YEAR OFF- 2008) BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU PURCHASED: NEW WINDOWS/DOORS, NEW INSULATION, OR NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT HEATING/COOLING EQUIPMENT.
3) TAX CREDITS FOR COLLEGE TUITION (NET OF SCHOLARSHIPS) HAVE BEEN EXPANDED. THEY NOW APPLY FOR ALL 4 YEARS AND INCLUDE COURSE MATERIALS. LOOK FOR FORM 1098-T FROM THE EDUCATION INSTITUTION (LET ME KNOW IF THIS APPLIES TO YOU)
4) SALES TAX PAID ON THE PURCHASE OF A NEW AUTOMOBILE (NOT A USED ONE) WILL RECEIVE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR 2009. BRING IN THE PAPER WORK.
5) A FIRST-TIME HOME BUYER CREDIT OF "UP TO $8,000", IS AVAILABLE FOR HOMES PURCHASED AFTER DEC. 31, 2008 AND BEFORE APRIL 30, 2010. OTHER HOME BUYER CREDITS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. BRING IN THE CLOSING DOCUMENTS TO SEE IF YOU QUALIFY. THE LATEST CREDIT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PAID BACK IF YOU LIVE IN THE HOME FOR 36 MONTHS.
6) THE FIRST $2,400 OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS RECEIVED IN 2009 WILL NOT BE TAXED. EVERYTHING OVER THE $2,400 WILL BE TAXED AS USUAL.
